Set sixty years in the future of a fictional Earth, Overwatch takes place thirty years after the resolution of the “Omnic Crisis”. Before the Omnic Crisis, humanity was experiencing a golden age of prosperity and technological development. Humans developed robots with artificial intelligence called "Omnics", which were produced around the world in automated "omnium" facilities and used to achieve economic equality, and began to be treated like people in its own right. The Omnium Crisis began when the Omniums began producing a series of deadly and hostile robots, which turned against humanity. The United Nations quickly formed Overwatch, an international task force to combat the omnic threat and restore order.
