Masami Kurumada creates an original fantasy universe inspired by various mythologies: Greek, Scandinavian, Buddhist, Japanese, Hebrew, Christian, etc. The knights' costume is inspired by that of the samurai of medieval Japan, but their attacks are reminiscent of comic book superheroes. It is this mixture of cultural references that will make the manga successful.
